Grayson College Lockdown Browser is available on the first day of class.
Download the Grayson College Lockdown Browser from the link located inside of Canvas.
Do not download Lockdown Browser from Google, any other link, or webstore.
Lockdown Browser does not work on cell phones.

Instructions to download and install the Grayson College Lockdown Browser for non-Chromebook devices:

Login to MyViking
Click on Canvas
Locate the quiz that requires Lockdown Browser
Click on "Take the Quiz"
Click "Download Respondus Lockdown Browser" link
Click "Install Now" and the file will download to your computer
Close your browser
Open the "Downloads" folder on your computer
Locate and double click on the LockDownBrowser.exe file to open it
Follow the prompts to install
Locate and double click the LockDownBrowser icon on your desktop to open it
Click "Close Process" to close all open programs
Lockdown Browser will open and prompt you to login to MyViking
Locate and access your quiz within Canvas
After you submit your quiz, close Lockdown Browser and return to a normal browser to continue.

You will NOT be able to search for the app directly from the Chrome web store.

To install the browser extension to a student-owned Chromebook:

Error Message: Unable to enter locked mode. You must select Yes on the "Confirm App Self-Lock: dialog to continue. Please try again.

Resolution: There is a hidden dialog box behind the Canvas page that she needs to click "Yes" on the dialog box.

Bring the Hidden Dialog to the Front
1. Press Alt + Tab (Windows) or Command + Tab (Mac) repeatedly to see if the “Confirm App Self-Lock” dialog is open behind other windows.
2. If you find it, click Yes to proceed.
Close Conflicting Software
- LockDown Browser refuses to continue if other applications are open that could interfere. Before starting:
1. Close all other programs — browsers, Zoom, Discord, Spotify, etc.
2. Exit or disable background tools like:
  - Screen recorders or capture tools (OBS, Xbox Game Bar)
  - Chat or overlay apps (Teams, Slack, Steam overlay)
  - Antivirus pop-ups or update prompts
3. Restart your computer and try launching LockDown Browser again.
Run as Administrator (Windows)
1. Right-click the LockDown Browser shortcut → Run as administrator.
- This ensures it can present and confirm the “Self-Lock” dialog properly.
Allow the Dialog Through Windows Settings
- Sometimes the User Account Control (UAC) or Windows focus settings block system dialogs:
1. Go to Control Panel → User Accounts → Change User Account Control settings.
2. Make sure the slider isn’t set to “Never notify.”
3. Restart and try again.
