Google Authenticator - Multi-Factor Authentication - Student

Do not sign in to Google Authenticator with your school or student email address.  Please use a PERSONAL account.

  •  To use Google Authenticator on iPhone or iPad, you need the latest operating system for your device.

1. On a computer, login to MyViking.
2. On your mobile phone, download and install Google Authenticator using the APP STORE.
3. On your mobile phone, open Google Authenticator.
4. Tap the + in the bottom right corner.
5. Select "Scan a QR code".
6. Using your mobile phone, scan the QR code displayed on your computer.
7. A 6 digit number will display on your phone.  The code has a timer and will refresh each time you login or every few seconds.
8. Enter the 6 digit number on your computer in the "Code" field.

Important:

• Do not sign in to Google Authenticator with your student or school email address.  Please use a PERSONAL account.
• Only set up Google Authenticator on the student's device, not a parent or friend's device.
• Do not delete the code on your phone. The code will automatically refresh each time to you login.
• Download "Google Authenticator". Do not use a different authenticator.  If it asks you to pay, you have the wrong authenticator downloaded.
• Do not use your phone camera to scan the QR code.  Use the Google Authenticator app to scan the QR code.
• You will scan a QR code only once.  After that, you will enter the 6 digit number (code) into the Code field.
• Grayson College will never ask you for your username, password, or authentication code.

If you delete the active Google Authenticator code from your phone, you will not be able to login to MyViking. 

Do you have multiple invalid codes listed on your Google Authenticator app?  You can delete the invalid codes, but make sure to keep the active code!

Android

1. Open Google Authenticator
2. Locate the invalid code associated with your username (Example: Google Authenticator: username)
   • NOT THE PROFILE Account in the top right corner
3. Swipe left on the account to delete it or long-press on the code to access the menu, then click the trash-can icon to delete
4. Clear your browser history, cache and cookies
5. Login to MyViking to prompt the Google Authenticator QR code setup page.  Follow the "Instructions" provided above.

No QR code on my computer.

This means you've already scanned the QR code previously. You should only scan the QR code once.

1. Please use the 6 digit code displayed on your phone in the Google Authenticator app.
2. Submit a ticket for further assistance.

No 6 digit code on my phone.

This means you are logged into a different profile account on Google Authenticator or you've deleted the code from the Google Authenticator profile account that you are logged into.

1. Try changing the profile account on Google Authenticator to a personal (non-school) email address.
2. Submit a ticket for further assistance.

I can't download Google Authenticator on my Apple iPhone.

If you're encountering issues downloading Google Authenticator on your iPhone:

1. Ensure your device is updated to iOS 14.0 or later, as this is a requirement for the app.  
2. Try signing out and back into your Apple ID before trying to download the app.
3. Submit a ticket for further assistance.

My Google Authenticator codes don’t work.

If you encounter other issues, such as a code not working, try restarting your device.  Also, check the time on your device to ensure it is accurate. Time discrepancies can cause codes to be invalid.

1. On your mobile device or cell phone, open the Google Authenticator app
2. Click on the profile icon in the top right corner
3. Select a non-school email account.  A personal email account works best!
